Celebrating American Heart Month
In February, hearts aren’t just symbols of Valentine’s Day. February is American Heart Month, a month devoted to the celebration of heart health and awareness of heart disease. Did you know heart disease claims more women's lives than all forms of cancer combined?! Make February the time you’re more mindful about being good to your body and your heart. Here are some small steps to take toward a healthier heart:
- Increase you Activity Level (at least a little). Exercise is incredibly important for heart health, but if jumping into a full-fledged fitness regimen sounds painful, it’s okay to start small! If you live a pretty sedentary lifestyle, commit to taking more walks or maybe foregoing the elevator for the stairs this month. If you’re slightly more active, add an extra cardio session to your weekly schedule with your heart in mind.
- Get Quality Sleep. Good sleep is great for your heart because it allows your body to rest and replenish itself. Shoot for getting seven or eight hours a night this February. Boost that sleep quality too! Studies suggest that putting down your phone 30 minutes before you go to bed can help you fall asleep faster and have a more restful night. Give it a shot!
- Eat Well. Focus on fiber this February, eating plenty of heart-healthy and unprocessed fruits and veggies. If you feel the urge to snack, reach for nuts instead of chips as nuts contain healthy fats. You could also consider cutting back on sugary drinks; even opting out of one soda or sugar-laden juice or coffee a day can lead to better heart health, not to mention weight loss!
- Start (or continue!) a Traditional Tonic Nourishing Collagen routine. Our Traditional Tonic has wide-ranging benefits including better sleep & reduced inflammation, both of which bolster heart health!
